Okay, say it with me...

Awww.... how cute!

Life has been a little bit, ummm... hectic lately. Last week Charlie was sick which means I had to miss work and then make-up work and in those scenarios, our lives always delve quickly into complete chaos. Socks strewn every which way, dishes piled up into the yard, toilet paper unrolled through every room in the house, you get the idea.

My normal response when things get crazy is to drive up the mountain, head off into the woods and take a few hours to just be. Be quiet, be reflective, be centered. Re-gain control of my head and then re-gain control of our lives. But this week I don't have even a couple hours to do that... in fact, I had exactly one hour today, between all the had-to-finish errands and picking Grace up from pre-school. So I did what is quickly becoming my new favorite hobby - take a couple dollars, visit a store with old stuff and see what treasures I can find. These are what I found today. All of these valentines were sent to a young girl named Eleanor Simpson in 1920. I wonder if she's still out there somewhere.

Yesterday we had a torrential downpour in the morning as I was taking Grace to school. I decided to carry her inside, which seemed like the best idea to get us both into the building as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I slipped on the stairs, we both fell, and she smacked the back of her head off a stair. I'm not the best person in those situations. I'm pretty sure I went into shock, I loaded her back into the car and started driving back to my office, the only thought in my head that I needed to get her to my dad so he could check her out to make sure she was okay (he's got all of those crazy emergency certifications that everyone should have). She was sure she was not okay and she told me so several times. Halfway there I started shaking uncontrollably and when my dad finally returned my page, I think I was talking at about 1000 words per minute. I did manage to call her doctor's office who said unless she was unconscious, she was likely fine. Which she was. But she hung out with me at work all day yesterday just in case.

In the meantime, I've not regained control of anything around our house (oh, okay, the dishes are not in the yard anymore) but I did get those cute Valentines. And I am flying to Austin on Friday and going to have a totally relaxing girls weekend with some wonderful women. When I get back there will surely be even more socks strewn every which way. But by then, hopefully I'll be in a better place to deal with it.
